Who is at risk?
In short, anyone!
Anyone can get an infection and almost any infection can lead to sepsis if untreated. However, certain people are at higher risk.
Adults 65 and older (2/3 of cases occur in adults 60 years and older)
people with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, lung disease, cancer and kidney disease
people with weakened immune systems
children younger than one-year-old
people in vulnerable social settings such as the homeless or those in congregate housing
Indigenous Peoples suffer higher infection rates which cause an increased chance of sepsis.
To learn more about sepsis, join us on September 13th (online or in-person) at our event, Transforming the Trajectory of Sepsis.
